Access control

Access to the closed harbour area requires a pass. Drivers can obtain a pass from the party with which they have business. A truck may not enter the closed harbour area without a pass!

If a driver's pass is in order and vehicle identification has been performed successfully, a truck can drive to the closed harbour area and the operator's control point without stopping. Operators require that cargo unit numbers have also been supplied to operators in advance (terminal advice).

Trucks that have received a permanent pass must also make sure that a terminal advice has been supplied for cargo. If documents are not in order, at the operator's control point, the truck will be sent back to the Gatehouse.

A truck is identified on the basis of the front licence plate or radio-frequency identification (RFID) if a truck has a transponder. Cargo units are identified on the basis of cargo unit numbers. The identification result and directions will appear on changing signs.

A truck's licence plates must be clean and undamaged so that camera identification can be performed successfully. Also keep an adequate distance from the vehicle in front of you so that the camera can read your licence plate both at the preliminary identification point and on the boundary of the closed harbour area at Gate A. Obey traffic lights.

Preliminary identification point

The preliminary identification point at the beginning of Harbour Road In provides directions so that drivers can proceed to the closed harbor area as smoothly as possible.

The display at the preliminary identification point tells the driver and, on the basis of the information fed into the database, to proceed to Customs, the Gatehouse, Port Info or straight to the closed harbour area.

If vehicle identification cannot be performed successfully or if there are any questions about preliminary information, signs will direct the driver to the Gatehouse, where all matters requiring passes are handled.

Pass identification point (Gate A)

The actual pass inspection point is located on the boundary of the closed harbour area at Gate A. At Gate A a truck's front licence plate is photographed again, and if a pass is found in the database on this basis, the boom will rise and a sign will give the driver directions.

If a truck's pass is in order but camera identification is unsuccessful for some reason, the truck will be directed to Port Info for manual identification.

Whenever a train arrives in the closed harbor area, the traffic light at the pass inspection point (Gate A) will turn red and the boom will stay down. Obey signs and wait.

Operating in the closed port area

There are fixed signposts in the closed port area and drivers register at the operator’s control point. The operator inspects cargo-related matters and directs the vehicle forwards in the area.

What to do in the closed harbour area

The closed harbour area has fixed signs that direct drivers to operators' control points. Operators will check cargo particulars and tell the driver how to proceed.

Finnlines/trucks boarding ships

The driver will receive a pass from the Gatehouse with a ticket.

Tallink/trucks boarding ships

Tallink will supply a pass to the closed harbor area on the basis of a terminal advice. The driver will receive a ticket at Tallink's control point.

Leaving the closed harbour area

Trucks leave the harbour area along Harbour Road Out. A driver should follow signs to Customs if instructed to do so. Otherwise a truck can leave the area without having to stop.
