Deepening of Vuosaari fairway awaiting SAC approval
A water permit for deepening the fairway leading into the Port of Vuosaari has already been received, but the project is still awaiting the conclusion of an appeal process. The appellant has appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court, which has yet to decide whether it will hear the appeal. Jukka Kallio says that the Court will hopefully announce its decision before the end of the year.
“If the Supreme Administrative Court agrees to hear the appeal, it will naturally take time. We’re currently investigating whether construction can begin in spite of the appeal, by launching the tendering process.”
The City of Helsinki has already decided to contribute EUR 4.2 million to the costs of deepening the Vuosaari fairway and harbour basin.
The fairway project is a joint venture between the Port of Helsinki, Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, and City of Helsinki. The harbour basin and fairway leading into the Port of Vuosaari will be deepened from 11 to 13 metres.
