An exercise of activities in accordance with the external emergency plan was held in the terminal area in the West Harbour on Thursday 26 August. Port operations continued as usual despite the exercise, and the exercise did not cause any disruptions to passengers or other people in the area.

The purpose of the exercise was to ensure that the Port of Helsinki has the appropriate operating models in place in the event of any accidents involving dangerous goods. In addition to the Helsinki City Rescue Department and the Port of Helsinki, the Finnish Border Guard and the Police also participated in the exercise.

The exercise included testing of the following measures contained in the external emergency plan: making an emergency call, warning other operators in the port area, locating, marking and evacuating the accident site as well as instructing authorities and providing expert assistance on the area to the rescue operations manager.
