Ville Haapasaari named new CEO of the Port of Helsinki

The Port of Helsinki Ltd has named Ville Haapasaari M.Sc., 46, as its new CEO.

In recent years, Haapasaari has led Helsinki Airport to great success in the role of Airport Director, SVP. Prior to this, he spent 14 years at Finnlines, in roles including Line Manager and Vice President, sales. Haapasaari has also worked in transportation within the forestry industry, amongst other jobs.
 
– The new CEO is very keen to get started in his new role, in which his background of both maritime expertise and highly impressive results in as an airport director will certainly prove beneficial. Thanks to his experience, he is perfectly suited to managing a wide variety of operations, from public-private cooperation and customer interfaces to major investments, states Chair of the Board Matti Parpala, explaining the factors influencing the choice of CEO.
 
– I see a great deal of similarities between running an airport and running a port. My experience will provide good foundations for the development of the service provision and passenger experience at the Port of Helsinki. At the same time, I am also returning to an operating environment that I am already familiar with, says Haapasaari.
 
Haapasaari will begin in his role of CEO of the Port of Helsinki in the spring, with the date to be confirmed at a later stage.
