On Monday 12 November, the Port of Helsinki will be implementing a new operating model for heavy traffic check-in at the West Harbour: heavy vehicles will be let in the harbour’s quay area approximately 2–3 hours before the ship’s departure to await boarding. The check-in is conducted from inside the vehicle, which, in addition to speeding up the process, reduces the need for waiting areas in the vicinity of the harbour.
The West Harbour’s waiting area for heavy traffic will be completely decommissioned in stages by the end of 2019, as the Port of Helsinki will be handing over the area to the City for housing development.
