The Port of Helsinki has built a truck park near the airport. The area is located along Katriinantie, and is designed to hold about 50 heavy vehicles. The port has leased the land required for the truck park and has built basic services, such as restroom facilities for drivers.

“The investment isn’t a large one, but still amounts to hundreds of thousands of euros. The system is as follows: when the transport manager has booked a vehicle on a ship and the vehicle has received a ticket from the shipping company, the vehicle can get into the truck park using its registration number. This allows the driver to spend the night or rest there at other times,” says Vesa Marttinen, VP Cargo.

The Uusimaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment has built another truck park in the same area. The port’s truck park will open in 2023.

“This will enable us to get overnighting trucks off the streets. Better services will be provided to drivers, thereby attracting cargo flows to the Port of Helsinki.”
