A Cycling Tour takes you to Helsinki’s 1952 summer games landmarks

In spring 2025, a campaign will appear in the streets of Helsinki encouraging people to take a cycling tour to the landmarks of the 1952 Helsinki Summer Olympics. The journey is enhanced by a digital guide, with three energetic virtual tour guides, Brynhild, Bore and Aallotar, who will lead listeners through the history of Helsinki’s Olympic-themed buildings with their stories.

“The Port of Helsinki is also along the history and cycling journeys. We offer meaningful activities in Helsinki for ferry passengers, tourists and locals alike,” says Sales Channel Manager Mia Auvinen from the Port of Helsinki. “Many people are interested in maritime and green Helsinki, its architecture and history. The Olympia Terminal is a great example of timeless architecture, but there’s much more to see from the time of the Helsinki Summer Games.”

A self-guided tour, for example by city bike, takes participants on a 15-kilometre journey through 24 different sites where the legacy of Helsinki’s 1952 Summer Olympics is still clearly visible. Along the way, the participants will get to know Helsinki, its seaside beauty and its diverse connections. The free mobile guide can be downloaded via the Reveel app: 75th Anniversary Tour of the Olympia Terminal.

The cycling campaign is made possible in collaboration with the Port of Helsinki, Reveel, HSL, CityBike Finland and Clear Channel. The story has been illustrated by graphic designer Pia Pitkänen.

“Reveel is a Finnish platform through which destinations, attractions and organisations can create the most modern and accessible visitor experience for their guests. Old paper signs are replaced with interactive digital guidebooks and guides that open on visitors’ phones in their own languages,” says the app’s founder and CEO, Sebastian Mellblom.

“City bikes serve both locals and tourists, both for everyday use as well as occasional needs. They are a convenient way to cover the first or last few kilometres of a trip, for example to the port, but they are also suitable for longer trips. The Reveel app offers a 20% discount on a tour, allowing users to rent bikes for the day, with free rides for trips under one hour during that time,” says Samuli Mäkinen, HSL’s expert in sustainable mobility.
