Communication in Emergencies

In the event of an emergency on board, emergency communication shall take place by contacting:

• Helsinki VTS at VHF channel 71
• or dialling +358 (0) 20 448 5385.

If you are dialling directly the national emergency number 112 you are required to inform Helsinki VTS as well.

When making an emergency call, please give the following information:

• The name of the ship
• What has happened
• Where has it happened
• The number of persons injured and the nature of the injuries
• The type of assistance required

Fire or Emergency on Board

Measures on board

• Make an emergency call immediately
• Cease all cargo operation
• Start fire fighting measures
• Disconnect the loading arms (tankers)
• Stand by for unberthing

Fire or emergency at the terminal or another vessel

Measures on board

• Make an emergency call
• Stand by to cease all cargo operation
• Wait for additional instructions from port authorities or VTS
• Stand by for unberthing
