The standards for working sustainably are already set high by the environmental permits which are required for port activities in Helsinki. All operators within the port area are required to comply with the environmental permits, and compliance is monitored by the port and relevant authorities. We aim higher and therefore we have set up Sustainability as one of our strategic centers, which aims to continual improvement of environmental quality and protection of the environment.

Sustainability is developed mainly through projects, which are monitored continuously by the management team (4 times p.a.) and the board of directors (2 times p.a.).

The main sustainability and environmental targets are monitored as part of corporate strategic KPI framework, which are reviewed quarterly.

One of the key themes of Port of Helsinki’s “For Sustainable growth” -strategy is sustainable traffic. We will contribute to sustainable development by achieving carbon neutrality in 2025, and by making land and sea transport smoother and more environmentally friendly.

The key aspects of the port’s responsibility management model are environmental, social and financial responsibility. Everyday management decisions are considered from a financial, social and ethical point of view, taking the company’s stakeholders into account.

The Port of Helsinki reports on the achievement of its responsibility and sustainable development goals as a part of its annual reporting, which is available in its entirety on the company website. Communication with the local community is active and frequent through various forums.
