Helsinki received 163,000 visitors from international cruises – same as previous season

Cruise visitors make Helsinki more lively as they disembark to see the attractions, boutiques, markets and events in the city.

In the latest international cruise season, cruisers visited Helsinki 90 times, which is a significantly smaller amount of visits than the previous year. However, the number of visitors remained the same from the previous summer. Almost 163,000 international cruise passengers visited Helsinki and the Metropolitan Area.

“This season, ships had a higher occupancy rate than the previous year, over 80%. This shows that passengers continue to show an interest in us here in the northern Baltic Sea,” says Cruice and service development manager Jukka Haarni from the Port of Helsinki.
“And the future is looking good, too, since advance bookings suggest that next year will be busier.”

The international cruise season lasted from mid-April to the end of September. On 17 visits, a cruise ship also stayed in Helsinki overnight. There were three ships that visited Helsinki for the first time. The last visitor of the season was MS Rotterdam, which stopped at Hernesaari on 30 September 2023.

The highest numbers of passengers came from Germany (38%), the USA (19%), the UK (17%) and Italy (4%).
