Helsinki visited by 161,000 cruise passengers

The 2022 international cruise season ended on Sunday 9 October with the visit of Mein Schiff 4 to Hernesaari in Helsinki. During the season, which started in mid-April, a total of more than 161,000 cruise passengers came to experience Helsinki and the metropolitan area.

The highest numbers of passengers came from Germany (37%), the USA (21%), the UK (17%) and Italy (3%).

There were 164 vessel calls in Helsinki, 25 of which included an overnight stay.

Many more vessel calls had been booked in advance. However, some of the calls were cancelled when cruises to St. Petersburg were called off following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The record year for cruise traffic in Helsinki was 2019, when 605,000 cruise passengers visited the city.

The Port of Helsinki has had the Sustainable Travel Finland label for sustainable travel operations since summer 2020.
