Port of Helsinki improves parking experience with Satamaparkki carpark at West Harbour

Long-term parking at Helsinki’s West Harbour will be transferred to the new Satamaparkki multi-storey carpark, which will open on 16 February 2021. The carpark is a short distance away from West Terminal 2 and West Terminal 1 and primarily serves West Harbour passengers but also companies, visitors and residents in the area.

All long-term parking at the Port of Helsinki will be transferred to Satamaparkki. In the future, there will only be short-term parking spaces for picking up and dropping off travellers near both terminals.

Satamaparkkitalo is located at Länsisatamankatu 45. It is a short, 300-400 meters walk away from the terminals.

The carpark is the first completed part of the Royal Center project, which is being developed by Royal Areena Oy. The new carpark was built by the construction company YIT and it is owned by the Special Investment Fund eQ Finnish Real Estate. The Port of Helsinki is responsible for the maintenance and functionality of the building. The Port’s partner, Aimo Park Finland Oy, is in charge of the daily operation of the carpark.

Smooth parking, easy payment

The carpark was designed with service design methods and it answers the needs of multiple user groups. Satamaparkki has over 700 parking spaces on eight floors. All but the top-most floor are covered.  Parking is quick and easy as there are no gates when driving in and out.

Payment has been made easy with the Taskuparkki service. The payment machines also accept the most common credit and debit cards.

Premium spaces also available

The carpark offers basic and later on spring, premium parking spaces.

The premium spaces are located on the ground floor of the carpark, with the shortest distance to the terminals. The parking spaces are wider than normal, making them ideal for families with children, for example. Pre-booked premium spaces also include the possibility to charge an electric car.

Book in advance and save

As of early March, parking spaces can also be reserved and paid in advance at new web booking service.  When using the booking service, parking is always at least 10% cheaper than when purchased on site.

‘For passengers it is not enough to have fun only at the destination, the entire travel chain should be smooth and stress-free. We at Port of Helsinki ensure that accessibility to port and parking facilities meet the needs of different travellers. The new West Harbour carpark with its services and payment options is a significant digital and service level step forward,’ says Head of Passenger Services and Property Development at the Port of Helsinki Marika Pauli.

‘The online parking booking service is a completely new thing in Finland, which we developed together with our partners Futurice and AimoPark.’
