Renewal of the Vuosaari road tunnel’s technical systems
Fintraffic is renewing the safety and traffic management systems of the road tunnel leading to Vuosaari Harbour. The Vuosaari road tunnel will be closed to traffic from 6 January 2026 onwards due to repairs to the tunnel. The estimated duration of the tunnel closure is around one year.
Complete closures of the tunnel are necessary because the traffic management systems of the Vuosaari tunnel have been implemented in a way that precludes two-way traffic in a single tunnel tube.
Traffic will be transferred to an improved detour
When the tunnel is closed, the current backup route – Itäväylä–Kallvikintie–Niinisaarentie–Vuosaari Harbour – will serve as a detour.
The backup route has been improved since autumn 2024.

Aiming for smooth and safe harbour traffic
The aim of the repair work being carried out is to modernise the tunnel systems and to ensure smooth harbour and other traffic in the area and the safety of the tunnel.
