Annual Report 2025: Port of Helsinki Moves from Planning to New Construction

Port of Helsinki has had an active year in 2025. In addition to running normal port operations, the focus was firmly on the future: preparations were made to centralise harbours and transition to a more sustainable society.
Economic development remained steady in 2025. The group’s turnover was €102.6 million, and profitability stayed at a good level.
The peak summer season for passenger traffic was lively, with a clear interest in local travel, and international tourists’ interest in travelling in the Baltic Sea region has also been revived, even though peak numbers have not yet been reached. The number of passengers in liner traffic remained at the previous year’s level, and the number of international cruise visitors increased by more than a quarter.
The group’s total cargo volume was slightly below the previous year, but unitised cargo traffic remained at a similar level. Finns were cautious in their consumption and construction activity was still low, which was also reflected in the amount of materials imported into Finland.
The centralisation of harbour operations in the city centre progressed to the implementation phase. The demolition of the old T1 terminal in the West Harbour was completed, and in August, the extension of the quay at the southern tip of the West Harbour began. Another milestone was the City Council’s decision on the local detailed plan for the port tunnel.
An important milestone in responsibility was reached as the company’s own air emissions were reduced to zero. For years, the port has reduced its energy use, and last year all purchased energy was carbon-free. In addition, the port compensated for its business travel emissions, as well as those from a few cars and machines, by acquiring voluntary offsets from Finnish reforestation projects.
According to customer and passenger satisfaction surveys, there is a high level of satisfaction with the operations of the Port of Helsinki. Based on the results of an employee survey, the port received the Great Place to Work certificate, an internationally recognised acknowledgement of positive work experience. In addition, 2025 was the first year in the organization’s recorded history with no work-related accidents leading to absence among employees.
The Helsinki Port Annual Report 2025 has been published on the port’s website in Finnish and English.
